A DORSET charity founder has scooped a top accolade at the Tesco Mum of the Year Awards 2015.

Louise Fetigan, 32, from Bovington, won the Supportive Mum of the Year Award at a star-studded ceremony yesterday at London’s iconic hotel, The Savoy.

Mrs Fetigan’s story was chosen from amongst thousands of nominations sent in from all over the UK. Marking its 10th anniversary year, the awards celebrate ordinary mums who do extraordinary things for others.

Mrs Fetigan founded My Daddy is a Solider Adventures in 2011 to support children around the globe with parents who serve in the British Army.

Soldiers are often away from home for long periods of time and when her own husband was serving abroad, Mrs Fetigan discovered there was little support for their daughter Madison, now 11. Mrs Fetigan is a former soldier herself and helps ‘little troopers’ cope with the anxiety of having have a parent away from the family home by organising treks, weekends away and summer camps and by supplying vital resources.

Mrs Fetigan is currently living at Bovington army base and so far the charity has raised more than £100,000, with every single penny going to help the children of serving army personnel.

She said: "I am so delighted to have won the Supportive Tesco Mum of the Year Award.

"The Awards on Sunday was just an amazing experience and we all had such a fantastic time."
