A GROUP of university film students have teamed up with a Puddletown based charity to work on their latest project.

The Dorset Scrap Store has proved an invaluable resource for students from The Arts University Bournemouth who are working on their graduation film.

The film, entitled Litter Bugg, is a fantasy drama that sees hero Dustin Bugg seek happiness by building a friend from the litter he collects.

As they started work on the film producer Stuart Duffy and director Amber Jo Weedon sat down with the team from the Dorset Scrap Store to discuss how they could help the project.

The not for profit organisation ensures materials are recycled through craft rather than ended up in landfill.

Stuart said: "We wanted to collaborate with the charity as our film touches on similar themes.

"They have agreed to work in tandem with us on our journey to make this film a reality."

After it is made the film Litter Bugg will be screened at the British Film Institute Southbank cinema in London before the team hit the festival circuit to try and get their efforts recognised.

Stuart said the film deals with issues such as self-identity, misunderstanding of the different and following dreams.

He added that as well as the work with the Dorset Scrap Store, funding for the project had also been a real collaborative effort.

Stuart said: "As students fighting the dreaded budget we have been crowdfunding and have had an amazing response.

"People have really connected with the story and the idea of litter being seen in a more inventive and purposeful light.

"Litter to our main character is not to be disregarded but is a functional, beautiful way of life.

"We are making entire parts of our set from clean, fresh rubbish we have sourced."

He added that the collaboration with the Dorset Scrap Store and the project in general had been a great example of the benefits of working with the community.

Stuart said: "We are delighted with their support we want to show what can happen when local community comes together."
