SPRING in Dorset will be celebrated on Saturday with some choral classics.

On March 28 at 7.30pm the Briantspuddle Singers will perform at St Christopher's Church in Winfrith Newburgh.

They will be singing Mozart's Sparrow Mass and Sancta Maria Mater Dei, along with Haydn's celebratory Te Deum in C, Abendlied zu Gott and Schubert's lyrical and romantic Mass No. 3 in B flat.

The exuberant and Spring-like Mozart Missa Brevis, may have been written for an Easter celebration and audiences may enjoy listening for the musical clues to its nickname of 'Sparrow'.

The choir are also pleased to welcome soloists Faye Eldret, Cathy Walker, Chris Larley and Martin Weston.

Soprano Faye Eldret is well known in Dorset for her innovative work with young singers, including the Wimborne Minster children's choir.

Alto Cathy Murray is also a favourite with Dorset audiences, having taken leading roles in oratorio and with Bournemouth Gilbert and Sullivan Society.

Tenor Christopher Larley is currently Director of Music at St Paul's, Chichester and conducts several choirs.

Bass Martin Weston is a past student at Thomas Hardye School and currently studies music at Robinson College Cambridge.

Sam Hanson may be best known in Dorset as organist of St Peter's Bournemouth.

Conductor Rob Dishington said: “The music has a bright and light-hearted feel and audiences may enjoy listening for the musical clue to its nickname.

"We'll also be singing the exciting Te Deum in C by Joseph Haydn and the lyrical and romantic Schubert Mass no 3 in B. A varied concert of classics to celebrate Easter.”

The choir is keen to welcome new members.

Tickets for this concert are £10. They are available at the door or in advance from the box office on 01929 554055 or by emailing mail@briantspuddlesingers.co.uk
