WEST won the Bank of Scotland inter-district under-21 women's hockey

championship for the third successive year at McDiarmid Park, Perth,

yesterday, writes Joseph Dillon.

The holders clinched the title in their last match, beating East 2-0

from goals by Helen Paxton and Gillian Soutar, but over the two days

senior internationalist Rhona Simpson was West's chief scorer, with 11

goals.

Goalkeeper Elaine Brown conceded only one goal, which came in the

opening game from Julie Brown, of Burts Melrose, when South ruined any

chance West had of a maximum record when the teams drew 1-1.
