A DORCHESTER student has been appointed to a senior role at his school for the next academic year.

Jason James-Goddard was announced as deputy head boy for next year at Brymore Academy near Bridgewater.

Competition for the senior positions at the school is fierce with 15 boys putting themselves forward for the head boy position.

They all had to stand on stage in assembly and tell staff and their fellow students why they should be voted for and then had to face a round of interviews with a panel that included the headteacher, deputy head and current head boy.

Dorchester resident Jason was given the title of deputy head boy with Joe Parkman head boy and Cameron Weldon and Alistair Rook chosen as assistant head boys.

Headteacher Mark Thomas said: "It was a rigorous selection process and all the boys who went for this elite position did very well and should be proud of themselves.

"We believe the top four senior students chosen have the qualities necessary to help them with their new roles."
