STUDENTS from the Thomas Hardye School in Dorchester clocked up the miles on a sponsored walk to raise funds for the WaterAid charity.

A total of 40 students and five staff members from the Dorchester school took part in the challenge.

The Walk for Water saw the team walk from the school to the Smugglers Inn at Osmington, collect either five or ten litres of water and returned.

They set off at 8am and, after the Smugglers Inn kindly provided refreshments free of charge on the day, they returned around 3.30pm.

The students are aiming to raise at least £1,000 from their challenge.

Student Angus Elliman said: “The way down to Osmington was enjoyable, but coming back was a lot harder than expected - it really put into perspective the journey that some people have to make every day just to get water!”

Emma Menzies added: “It was really tough but I just kept reminding myself that this is a journey people make every day- it stopped me from complaining!”
