A GANG stole £100,000 in cash during a night-time raid on a city centre bank.

Three men fled with cash canisters containing tens of thousands of pounds from the Clydesdale Bank's Charing Cross branch.

The trio forced their way into the property minutes after security guards filled up the branch's ATM machine.

Witnesses spotted the men fleeing the scene with the six-figure haul in hold-alls. Police said the theft took place between 10.15pm and 10.45pm last night after cash-in-transit guards arrived at the bank.

Detective Inspector Billy Little, who is leading the investigation, said: "We are appealing to anyone who may have seen the culprits hanging around the bank or running off following the break-in to contact us immediately.

"Inquiries have revealed the men were wearing ski-masks and fled the scene on foot."

The three men are all in their early 30s, around 5ft 9in tall, with stocky builds. One of the men was wearing a black hooded top, dark body warmer and black combat trousers.

Two of the men were carrying a light blue coloured fabric bag. The gang were last spotted heading towards Woodside Road, near to Lynedock Crescent.

A number of streets surrounding the bank, in Woodside Crescent, were sealed off this morning and the branch was closed. Anyone with any information should contact Stewart Street police office on 0141 532 3000.

The raid comes after two cash-in-transit guards were targeted outside a busy supermarket.

A man shoved one of the guards to the ground and grabbed a cash box in the incident at Asda in Robroyston on Sunday.
