TWO lifeboats from Weymouth and the coastguards were launched after a young girl got stuck on rocks on Portland in poor weather conditions.

Both the inshore and all-weather RNLI lifeboats were launched at 6.49pm to the incident, which was between Blacknor Rocks and The Cover.

A spokesman for the Maritime Coastguard Agency said the lifeboats and the Portland Bill coastguard team had been called to the incident after a young girl became stranded on the rocks on the island, and called for help.

The spokesman added that there were no serious injuries.

Coastguards left the scene shortly after 8.30pm.

A spokesman for Weymouth RNLI said: "Weymouth RNLI all weather lifeboat was launched at 6.49pm  to reports of a young girl on the rocks between The Cove and Blacknor Point on Portland.

"The Coastguard was concerned that she might either be in the sea or swept into the sea due to the gale force winds and rough seas in the area at the time.

"On arrival on scene the lifeboat crew found that the young girl was still on the rocks and the lifeboat stood by until the Portland Coastguard Cliff Rescue Team could reach her and walk her back to the Cove.

"The lifeboat was then stood down and returned to station at 8.15pm."
