HEARTFELT tributes have been paid to a young woman who died in a fatal car crash near Dorchester.

Alice Still, 23, from Cerne Abbas, died after her car, a black Nissan Primera, left the road on Revels Hill on the Old Sherborne Road at around 9.45pm on Saturday.

Now, her family and friends have paid touching tributes the woman they describe as a “very popular” member of the community and said she would be remembered for her “infectious smile.”

Alice first moved to Cerne Abbas four years ago with her family when her father, Jonathan Still, took the role of the vicar at St Mary’s Church.

Alice quickly became involved in village community life, and worked as a barmaid at the Giant Inn.

Mr Still said: “We will remember her for her vivacious energy and the way she loved Cerne Abbas. She helped stitch together the village, because she seemed to have links with both the younger and the elderly members of the community and I think what we are most grateful for is that she had this ability. Alice will also be remembered for her lovely and infectious smile.

“She worked at the Giant Inn and even though there have been a number of changes at the pub, she was the one line of continuity there.

“It has really hit the family, it’s like someone has magically removed someone from your life. We keep finding things she left, little notes to herself that she hoped to achieve.

“We have been overwhelmed by the number of messages and cards we have received.”

Mr Still added: “Alice loved the community life of the village. She loved the place and the people, she really enjoyed helping out with the lunches for the elderly people she hosted at the Giant Inn, and she really did love the area.

“She used to walk the dogs and used to go out around the village eating and seeing the sights.”

Her mother Jane added: “Because we have moved all over the country because of Jon’s job, Alice said to me here in Cerne Abbas, she felt like she had found herself.

“People would say to her to go and travel and see the world, but she would always say that Cerne Abbas was the only place she wanted to be and that she wanted to be here forever.”

Anneliese Coats, landlady of the Giant Inn, paid tribute to Alice, and said she would be massively missed by the whole of the village.

She said: “Alice was lovely, she was very good at her job and was a very popular member of staff.

“She had worked here for a few years and was a barmaid and a waitress. She was really part of the team. We are all gutted and very sad about what has happened.

“She is going to be greatly missed by everyone who worked here and the customers.”

Lisa Moore, one of Alice’s friends, posted on Facebook: “I think it’s her smile that we will all miss so much, this picture is how we will remember Alice for years to come, R.I.P my friend, still can’t believe she’s gone.”

  • Dorset Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash.

A spokesman for the force said: “Any witnesses to the collision or to the manner of driving of the black Nissan Primera prior to the collision are asked contact Dorset Police on 101, quoting incident number 18:462.”
