A road in Weymouth was closed due to a vehicle fire.

The incident happened on Cassiobury Road, at the junction of Avenue Road earlier this morning.

Firefighters said that a campervan was involved in the fire and was 'severely damaged' in the blaze.

Two crews from Weymouth attended the fire, which was extinguished using hose reel jets.

Emergency services were alerted to the fire at 7.53am and the fire service received nine calls in total about the fire.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown. The road is now believed to be back open and was re-opened at approximately 9am.

One eyewitness described how they saw smoke.

He said: "I didn't see it, I just saw a lot of smoke. What people said happened was that he put the key in and the engine went and then it just went up in flames."

Another was shocked by the amount of damage the fire caused.

She said: "It's not good. Look at it, it's all just gone."
