A WEYMOUTH man is helping to revolutionise the dating scene in his creation of a new app.

The Singles Badge app has fought its way into the US iTunes chart and has received thousands of downloads taking it global.

It reached number 13 in the US overall iTunes charts and number one in The Lifestyle chart.

Creator Michael Flann, from Weymouth, said: "I can't believe how many downloads we have had in just a few hours, let alone days.

"The current Singles Badge users are really going to notice a difference now – the GPS service allowing users to see who is single and nearby effectively helps you avoid those 'are they, aren’t they single' conversations.

"iTunes is such a huge platform for us to be rated so highly on and we’re excited to keep growing and expanding."

Michael believes that unlike other dating apps, Singles Badge eliminates the 'fear' of rejection allowing users to interact and get to know each other with the knowledge that they are single and interested in meeting new people.

Michael said: "I was in university back in 2003 when I had the idea.

"I thought wouldn't it be cool if you could message people around you within close proximity that you can see are single from your phone.

"Back then it was only bluetooth that could do this, so it wasn't till now with GPS smart phones that the technology is available.

"I thought one of the big dating sites may have dealt with close proximity meeting by now but they haven't. So I thought I've really got to make a site or app that deals with all areas.

"The way I've designed singles badge you could see someone you like first, then look on the app to see if they are single as well as meet people in the conventional dating site way by a search that progressively gets wider.

"The close proximity single near me section you can set to 100 metres meaning you will see everyone that's in a bar, supermarket, gym wherever you are plus a bit further making it easy to see who is single around you. You can then flirt or message to see if they are interested if they are not, then you've eliminated that fear of being seen to be rejected."
