POLICE are renewing their appeal for witnesses after a 17-year-old teenager was hit by a car in Weymouth at the weekend.

The teenager was left with a fractured skull following the incident, which took place at around 5.40pm on Saturday on Newstead Road near to the Asda store.

Dorset Police say the teenager’s injuries are not believed to be life threatening but he remains in Southampton General Hospital.

Police, ambulance and the air ambulance were all called to the scene on Saturday.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: “At 5.45pm on Saturday, we attended a collision on Newstead Road, Weymouth, involving a 17-year-old local man and a car.

“The male sustained a serious head injury and was taken to Southampton General Hospital where he is with his family.”

The Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance attended the scene but a spokesman for them said they did not land and did not airlift the casualty – who was taken to hospital by land ambulance.

A spokesman for the South Western Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 5.41pm to a report a young teenage male had been hit by a car near to Asda in Weymouth.

“He suffered quite a severe head injury and was taken to Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester.

“Police were also at the scene. We had a paramedic in a rapid responce vehicle as well as an ambulance at the incident.”

The spokesman added that the teenager was not conscious when he was taken to hospital but that he was breathing.
