VOLUNTEERS put the pedal to the metal to encourage people to sign up for the Macmillan Dorset Bike Ride.

The event takes place on Sunday July 5 and to support the final call for entries into the bike challenge, staff at Sunseeker organised for a static bike to be put on top of one of their yachts.

Sally Collins, a volunteer helping to organise the Macmillan Dorset Bike Ride, was on the bike cycling in the sunshine as the luxury yacht took her around Poole Harbour on Wednesday afternoon.

The yacht manufacturer, which has a factory on Portland, has been supporting the event for the last 10 years.

Bryan Jones, Sunseeker’s Marketing Manager, said: “We’re hoping that by working together and raising awareness of the event we can get our highest ever turnout of 1,000 participants for 2015 with a target of raising £100,000.”

Since 1989 the Macmillan Dorset Bike Ride has raised in excess of £1,000,000, all of which has gone towards supporting people living with cancer.

This year’s ride starts in Corfe Mullen on with the option of 10, 25, 38, 48, 60 or 100 mile routes.
