IT WAS a case of ‘bone appétit’ at Dorchester Curiosity Centre when dogs and their owners came together for a doggy tea party.

The event was organised in aid of Margaret Green Animal Rescue, the oldest and largest animal rescue charity founded in Dorset.

Members of the public were able to visit the Curiosity Centre’s cafe throughout the day to grab a bite to eat alongside their canine companions.

Parkhouse Pet Supplies donated a number of treats for dogs to wolf down, leaving plenty of tails wagging.

Michelle Duncan, owner of Dorchester Curiosity Centre, said they were inspired to organise the event after reading an article in the Echo.

Earlier this year, the Echo reported on Martin Clunes’ appeal to readers to host a ‘Paws for Tea’ tea party to raise money for Blue Cross pet charity.

Michelle said: “We saw the article which the Echo ran about Martin Clunes and the Blue Cross tea parties that were running nationally, but we decided to do something for a local charity instead.

“It’s a dog friendly business and dogs are allowed. A very kind lady in the cafe has made special dog biscuits for the event.

“There’s been a lot of excitement from the dogs and the customers that know of Margaret Green have been pleased to donate.”

Asked why Margaret Green Animal Rescue was the chosen charity, Michelle said: “It’s local, I know many people who have had dogs from them and also for the good work that they do.”

An information display for Margaret Green Animal Rescue featured at the event, with raffle tickets also on sale.

Michelle said she was grateful for everyone’s support.

She said: “I’d like to say a big thank you to everybody who’s supported it, especially Parkhouse Pet Supplies who donated the dog treats for us.”

Annette Craddock, from Broadmayne, brought her two dogs to the event. This included Holly, a seven-year-old Cairn Corgi, and Rosie, an eight year-old West Highland Terrier She said: “It’s very nice to see a place that welcomes dogs.

“It’s nice to get them out and about. It is good socialising skills for them and we’re raising money for a good charity as well.”
