EX-SERVICEMEN were treated to a full English breakfast at Portland’s Tesco store as it celebrated the efforts of the Armed Forces.
The island supermarket marked Armed Forces Day by inviting half a dozen Navy and Army veterans into the staff restaurant to enjoy a breakfast on them.
The store’s community champion Debbie Lindoe said she had contacted Bill Rose from the local branch of the Royal British Legion, who put her in touch with the local ex-servicemen so the store could invite them in for breakfast with herself and store manager John Williams.
She explained that it was all part of the store’s efforts to recognise the Armed Forces and celebrate the contribution of ex-servicemen and women.
Debbie said: “Tesco is the largest employer of ex-service people in the country and we thought we would mark the occasion by serving a Heroes breakfast.”
Further breakfasts were held at Tesco stores across the country as the store celebrated nationally.
In Portland staff also put their hands in their pockets for a collection for the Help for Heroes charity.
Debbie said that the veterans had enjoyed their experience at the store so much they had asked to come back for a behind the scenes tour, which manager Mr Williams has agreed to.
