POLICE are appealing for information after an alleged serious assault in West Dorset.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward to help them with their investigation.

A man has been arrested following the alleged incident and has been released on police bail.

Officers said that at 11.25pm on Saturday, (4) they were called to Princess Road in the Skilling area of Bridport following reports that a man had been assaulted.

The victim, a 46-year-old man from Bridport, was taken to Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester for treatment to a broken collar bone and fractures to his face.

Detective Constable Rhys Griffiths, of Weymouth CID, said: “I am appealing for anyone who witnessed this incident to please contact me urgently.

“I am particularly keen to hear from anyone who saw a man acting suspiciously in the St Mary’s Fields area between 10.45pm and 11.15pm on Saturday evening.

“All calls will be treated in strict confidence.”

A 30-year-old man, from the Bridport area, has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and has been released on police bail until mid-September pending further enquiries.
