A LYME Regis couple will peddle across the south of England to raise money for a cancer charity.

With the Tour de France getting into full swing, Vicky Woodbridge-Harris will be taking on 300 miles in memory of her father Chris Woodbridge.

Chris died from prostate cancer last year, and Vicky is determined to do something positive in his memory.

Vicky will be joined by her husband Martyn as they cycle from Woodbridge in Suffolk, paying tribute to her dad's name, to Exeter.

Chris and his wife Eddi retired to live in Exeter.

"Many Lyme residents will remember my dad, Pops, and how he was always up for a challenge" said Vicky.

"He was passionate about the outdoors and passed on this love through his time as the principal of Lyme Regis Outdoor adventure Centre. Unfortunately, prostate cancer attacks men indiscriminately and his past endeavours proved to be meaningless in fighting the disease."

Chris represented Great Britain in surf lifesaving, and was also a canoeist, climber and sailor. He was also Commodore of Lyme Regis Sailing Club and the Lyme Bay section of the cruising club.

The couple, who now live in Horrabridge, will set off on the three-day challenge on July 24.

Vicky added: "My dad was one of 10,000 that died of prostate cancer last year.

"Awareness of this disease needs to be raised, and that's why Martyn and I want to raise as much money as possible so Prostate Cancer UK can continue to help more men survive.

"Yes it's a challenge over three days, yes it's going to be tough, and yes its going to hurt, but it will be nothing like what Pops went through in his last three years."

The charity event has enabled the two keen cyclists with an opportunity to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Martyn and Vicky are hoping to raise £3,000 and are calling on public help to reach their target.

Martyn said: "Once the route was decided upon and training begun, we needed to get organised for the event.

"We wrote many letters and have now secured help in financing the logistics of the ride. Now all we need are the donations to help us reach, or even exceed our sponsorship target."
