SWANAGE author David Leadbetter has just published a new book on guided walks in Purbeck.

Titled 'The Magic of Purbeck', the book details ten fully illustrated walks for people of all abilities.

David, who has spent many years exploring the area on foot, said: "Walking is one of the healthiest activities that can be engaged in.

"As well as the obvious physical benefits, there is a spiritual dimension that can be obtained from the uplifting views of beautiful places, reducing stress and tension that accrue from our busy lives.

"A walk can also be an opportunity to learn something new."

Walks detailed in the book include Kingston to Kimmeridge and Houns-tout; Wareham to Stoborough, Creech Bottom, Soldier Road and Ridge; Ulwell Gap, Ballard Down, Old Harry and Studland; and many more.

A spokesman for publisher Roving Press said the book inspires you to get out and explore the stunning scenery on our doorstep.

"Following the success of his first book, Paranormal Purbeck, David has used his intimate knowledge of the area, particularly the flora and fauna and local history, to produce a selection of walks."

David's book describes where to find some of Purbeck's notable birds, plants and butterflies, added the spokesman.

"David also highlights the unique historical and archaeological features in the landscape, with special reference to barrows, unusual burials, standing stones, strip lynchets, churches, graves and local industries.

"Even the old derivation of place names is covered."

The Magic of Purbeck is available from local outlets and publisher Roving Press, at rovingpress.co.uk, priced £9.99.

David will be in the New & Secondhand Bookshop, Station Road, Swanage, from 10.30am on Saturday, July 4, to chat and sign copies of his book.
