STEAM loco Tangmere made for an impressive sight as it roared out of Weymouth today.

In this picture, the Battle of Britain class locomotive which dates from 1947 is shown heading the return portion of the Weymouth Seaside Express rail tour back to Bristol.

Tangmere was also in town last week for the first Dorset Coast Express tour of the summer from London Victoria.

More steam trains are set to run to Weymouth this summer courtesy of the Railway Touring Company which invite passengers on a nostalgic trip to the seaside.

The summer rail tours have been operating for a number of years and provide an economic boost as hundreds of passengers take advantage of a journey to the coast.

Britannia class ‘Oliver Cromwell’ is also likely to be seen on the Dorset Coast Express run this summer as well as Tangmere.

A spokesman for the Railway Touring Company said: “The Dorset Coast Express steam train will take passengers on a nostalgic journey with the promise of steam, sand, sea and, with luck, sun."

The next steam train is due to visit on Wednesday, August 5.
