A WEYMOUTH man was taken to hospital after a 'vicious' assault at the Lazy Lizard along the Esplanade.

The incident happened sometimes between 12.45am and 1.30am on Sunday July 26.

A 28-year-old man from Weymouth was at the bar when he was punched a number of times in the face by a man, causing swollen lips.

He fell awkwardly to the floor and broke his leg in the attack.

It is believed the incident was unprovoked.

Detectives are investigating the serious assault and are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward.

The offender is described as a white man, around six feet tall, with short hair and of athletic build. He also wore a white shirt.

Detective Constable Jacqui Gravenor, of Weymouth CID, said: “This was a vicious assault, which resulted in serious leg injuries for the victim.

“There were a number of people in the bar at the time and therefore I am appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the assault to contact me, in confidence, on 101.”
