AN 11-year-old baker raised more than £500 for Dorchester County Hospital for her grandfather.

Imogen Brown’s family say they were shocked when grandfather Chris Dufall was recently diagnosed with cancer.

Kerry Brown, 43, from Dorchester said the whole family had been shocked by the “totally out of the blue” diagnosis.

She said: “We were all quite shocked. Imogen just kept saying she wanted to so something for her granddad. I said, “You can’t, the doctors have to do it,” and she said that she could, she could raise some money.”

Imogen decided to raise money for the Fortuneswell Ward at Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester who are treating her grandfather and set out baking cakes and organising posters.

She and her family sent the poster around to all their family and friends.

Imogen’s other grandfather, Malcolm Brown, known as Papa, has been diagnosed with leukaemia for many years and has also stayed on Fortuneswell Ward.

On July 11 in the afternoon, the family’s garden was filled with people. The family made loads of cakes of various descriptions and put out a donation pot.

Donations poured in from friends and family, including those that couldn’t be there on the day.

At the end of the day, Imogen and her mum counted up the money and they had raised £560.60 for the Fortuneswell Ward at Dorset County Hospital.

Mrs Brown said: “We are so proud of her. It was just such a nice idea. It was a lovely thing to do.”

She added: “This was all her own idea as she “wanted to do something for grandad.”

“Myself, my husband, Luke Brown, and Imogen’s sister Madelaine, who is six, are all immensely proud of her.

“The afternoon was a complete success and everyone said what a lovely vibe it had.

“Imogen and our whole family would like to thank everyone who came to the event and supported her.”

The family presented a cheque to Dorset County Hospital recently.
