A WEYMOUTH teenager is looking to take a leap of faith later this year in a bid to raise money for charity.

Ben Parker, 16, is planning to do a tandem skydive for the first time in aid of Help for Heroes.

He said: “The charity has got a personal connection with a close friend of mine and also I think they do a great job with the troops.

“They also work with the families of the troops, which I think is good.

“This is a first. I’m looking forward to it but I’m a bit nervous at the same time.”

The former Wey Valley student hopes to jump from 10,000 feet above Salisbury Airfield in November.

The minimum sponsorship needed is £395. This includes the cost of the jump and at least £140 for Help for Heroes.

Help for Heroes offers comprehensive support to those who have suffered life-changing injuries and illnesses whilst serving their country.

Ben, who wants to raise at least £200 for the charity, said he has auctioned several items to raise the required funds.

This includes a microphone signed by singer-songwriter Ella Henderson, which is available to bid for until Sunday (2 August).

He said: “I thought it just sits in my wardrobe so I thought I might as well get some money for it and put it towards my skydive.

“I’m auctioning off other items and I’ve also set up the JustGiving page as well.

“I’m looking to do an event at some point. It’s possible it could be some sort of disco.”

Ben’s skydive attempt is being backed by his friends and family. He said: “They think I’m mad but at the same time they are really supportive and happy to help.”
