MOTORISTS heading between Dorchester and Weymouth faced delays following a four-vehicle collision on The Ridgeway.

Police were alerted to a collision involving four vehicles on the A354 between the Football Ground roundabout in Dorchester and the Jurassic roundabout in Weymouth at around 11.30am.

A total of 12 casualties were treated by the ambulance service following the collision but there were no serious injuries reported.

The collision occurred in the Dorchester bound lane and traffic was able to pass while the vehicles were recovered but it caused congestion in the area.

A Dorset Police spokesman said the collision occurred closed to Swallows Rest, a lone property at the top of the Ridgeway.

The spokesman described the incident as a ‘four-vehicle shunt’ that occurred in the Dorchester bound lane.

She added that officers were able to deal with the incident without closing the road but there were delays to motorists as a result.

A spokesman for the South Western Ambulance Service said two frontline ambulances attended the scene as well as a rapid response vehicle and an officer’s car and they dealt with a total of 12 casualties.

He said: “Most of them had minor injuries or were just treated for shock.

“We had one that had to be seen in the emergency department with a knee injury.”
