SLEEP under the stars and see nature like never before.

Take part in a guided walk, track down bats and owls and sit around the camp fire before snuggling up under the skies.

The RSPB is inviting Dorset residents to take part in its second annual Big Wild Sleepout.

It takes place at Arne Nature reserve on Saturday.

Morwenna Alldis, from the RSPB said: “There’s no better way to develop a connection with nature than by spending the night underneath her starry canopy.

“When I took part in the RSPB’s Big Wild Sleepout last year I was amazed to discover how many different wild lives live on our doorsteps and rely on our network of gardens and parks after dark.

“Sleeping outdoors makes you realise that nature doesn’t shut-down like we do as the sun sets – it comes alive. Developing this awareness of the wildlife with which we share our daily lives is vital, so as to encourage everyone to help give nature a home in our own homes.”

Children of all ages are welcome to jount the sleepout, as long as they are accompanied by an adult.

Rob Farrington, RSPB visitor experience manager for Dorset, said: “People are still talking about the Big Wild Sleepout from last year, so we can’t wait to top that with this year’s events.

“There are all sorts of activities planned including a guided night walk to track down bats, owls, glow-worms and nightjars - it will be fun for the whole family. Sumptuous local food will also be cooked onsite, over a campfire, by the Dorset Charcuterie.”
