A WEATHER warning has been issued for ‘torrential downpours’ across Dorset on Thursday and Friday.

The Met office has put out a yellow warning for the south of England from 6am on Thursday until 11.50pm on Friday August 14.

The weather experts have also predicted thundery showers for the south of England.

Areas affected will include Bath and North East Somerset, Bournemouth, Bristol, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, North Somerset, Plymouth, Poole, Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Swindon, Torbay, Wiltshire and the Isles of Scilly.

On their website, the Met office said: “A developing area of rain is expected to reach the south of England early on Thursday morning, before pushing north across much of southern UK during the day.

“The rainfall is likely to be heavy and thundery at times, with the potential for torrential downpours in places.

“The public should be aware of a significant risk of very localised disruption to travel due to surface water flooding.

“Lightning may be an additional hazard.”

Due to localised thunderstorms, weather experts have also predicted as much as 15-25mm of rain within a few hours.

Some areas may accumulate as much as 50 mm possible very locally by the end of Thursday and 70mm of rain by the end of Friday.
