CREATIVE youngsters are being urged to follow in the footsteps of a Portland teenager to be in with a chance of winning £1,000 funding to carry out their imaginative work.

Hiive, a professional network for creative people, has launched the competition to support young people in their ambition to pursue art.

Sophie Fretwell, from Portland, who studied costume and set design at Arts University Bournemouth, won a similar competition in March.

The 19-year-old’s work, entitled Coalition, featured David Cameron, Nick Clegg, Ed Miliband and Nigel Farage in a ‘punch up’ in the House of Commons.

Sophie received a £1,500 bursary from Hiive after she impressed the judges with her pitch.

The painting was unveiled at the official launch of Hiive earlier this year.

Tom Davis, from Hiive, said: “As we had a winner and so many great entries from Dorset with our last competition we would love to see some more this time.”

Entrants need to think of a creative institution that they remix, update or subvert and submit it to their Hiive profile before August 28. Shortlisted entries will be asked to expand on their idea and supply some visual accompaniments to support their brief.

Winners will be informed on August 31 and work will need to be completed by September 10.
