DAIRY farmers are being sought for a national scheme providing advice and support.

The Prince’s Dairy Initiative, now in its 4th year, is looking for up to 20 traditional family dairies in the Dorset area to join the programme, which offers free support and business advice to those running small and medium-sized dairy herds.

Eligible farmers should have a dairy herd of fewer than 200 cows and supply their milk on a standard contract.

Chairman Mike Stevens said: "Our experience to date proves that bringing local, like-minded farmers together delivers real benefits.

"The problem is that too often the farmers who could benefit the most from this initiative are too remote or too busy to seek support. We're trying to spread the word and reach these farmers."

An introductory meeting will be held at the Exchange in Sturminster Newton on Thursday, September 17, at 7pm. For more information or to book call Becky Miles on 07500 873258 or email rebecca.miles@ahdb.org.uk.
