AWARD-winning cycling business, Jurassic Electric, is holding an Electric Bike Demo Day on Bank Holiday Monday at Portland Marina.

The Weymouth-based company know a thing or two about electric bikes, having used this innovative form of transport for their guided tours business since 2012.

Martin Gershon, who set up Jurassic Electric, said: “We are really excited to have this opportunity to showcase our bikes in partnership with Portland Marina. The experience we’ve gained means we know exactly what models of electric bike work best in a hilly area like west Dorset."

Martin set up Jurassic Electric after noticing that many people were deterred from cycling in west Dorset because they were worried about the amount of effort that would be required.

Electric bikes are powered by a small electric motor and a large battery pack and they assist the rider who can control the speed using a range of settings.

Martin added: "Electric bikes are enabling everyone, regardless of their age, ability or level of fitness to cycle who would never previously considered having a go. We’ve had such a huge range of people out on out tours since we started including a lady in her eighties who enjoyed a day out with us on Portland."

As well as being able to view the bikes and chat to Martin and his team, people will also be able to have an accompanied taster ride on an electric bike priced at £5 for 15 minutes.

The Electric Bike Demo Day is being held on August 31.
