WEYMOUTH’S Marks and Spencer store is warming up to support an extra special coffee morning in aid of Macmillan.

This year Macmillan Cancer Support celebrates the 25th anniversary of the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.

The store is joining forces with M&S branches nationwide to host the coffee morning on Friday, September 25, in celebration of the flagship fundraising event, and is calling on its customers to join in too.

From today, (September 1), M&S customers will also be able to enjoy a host of tasty treats on sale in M&S Food Halls with 10 per cent of each sale going to Macmillan.

Products include a Macmillan Victoria Sandwich, M&S’s famous Colin the Caterpillar Cake and a limited edition World’s Biggest Coffee Morning 25th Anniversary Biscuit Tin.

All M&S cafés will also be donating 5p from every cup of coffee and slice of cake sold during September to Macmillan.

Over the last six years M&S has raised more than £4 million for Macmillan with this event.

This year’s event comes as it is revealed that there are 2.5 million people living with cancer in the UK, a number that is set to double by 2030.

The money raised by M&S will help to support people affected by cancer as well as fund vital posts in local communities, right across the UK.

Emma Ludford, store manager at M&S Weymouth, said: “Macmillan is a cause that is close to many people’s hearts, including many of our employees, which is why we want to make this year’s event our most successful yet.

"It would also be fantastic to be able to raise more funds than ever before to help mark the 25th birthday of the popular World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.

“Above all, the event provides a great excuse to gather together with friends, family, or work colleagues, enjoy a cuppa and a slice of cake, all in aid of a very worthy cause.”

M&S Food Halls and cafés will also be selling two bespoke coffee morning badges designed by renowned British designer Sophie Conran, for a suggested donation of £2, each featuring a coffee morning recipe from Sophie herself.

Chloe Gallagher, senior partnership manager at Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “It is a sad fact that one in three of us will get cancer in our lifetime, and it is the toughest fight most of us will ever face.

"The support Macmillan receives from M&S is vital in enabling us to continue to support people affected by cancer, so that no one has to face cancer alone.

“Celebrating the 25th birthday of our coffee mornings makes this year extra special for all involved and we hope that lots of people across the nation will join us to help make this year’s event the biggest and best ever.”
