PEOPLE had some barking mad fun in aid of a good cause as a village pub held its second Dog, Sausage and Cider Festival.

Approximately 1,000 people flocked to the event on Sunday, organised by The Springhead public house in Sutton Poyntz, and they helped raise £850 for Margaret Green Animal Rescue.

Entertainment included a dog show, a sausage-throwing competition, live music from The Blazing Strings, a bouncy castle, face painting and more.

Pub landlady Jo Parker said: “The festival went fantastically well this year and we had an amazing 172 entries for the dog show.

“We expected a few people to have a laugh with our new sausage-throwing competition, but we had 160 throwers and the furthest distance was an impressive 51 metres.

“A massive thank you must go to everyone who came along, together with Ann Bond and Caroline who were our dog show judges.”

Jo took over the running of The Springhead in October 2012 and said she was grateful for the support they’ve had from the local area and afar.

She added: “This year’s festival was a great success and we will definitely be doing next year.”

The dog show boasted 10 show classes for dogs to enter, each costing £1 per dog. Classes included ‘best fancy dress’, ‘young handler award’, ‘waggiest tail’ and ‘Springhead best in show’.

Last year’s event raised £600 for the animal charity and Jo said it was fantastic they had beaten that fundraising amount this year.
