WEYMOUTH RNLI lifeboat crews were called out on Saturday evening to a 44' wooden sailing vessel with engine failure, with a person on board who was severely ill with sickness.

The all-weather lifeboat was called at 9.20pm to approximately three miles from Weymouth.

The yacht was towed back to Weymouth harbour where they were handed over to paramedics to be checked over.

This was just one of four call outs for the lifeboat team who has a busy bank holiday weekend.

On Friday the all-weather lifeboat was tasked by the Solent Coastguard to assist a yacht just West of The Shambles Bank with steering failure.

The lifeboat left the harbour at 1.30pm to aid a lone sailor whose yacht had a broken rudder.

The yacht was towed back to Weymouth and when the repairs were completed he was able to continue his journey.

On Saturday at 5.50pm the inshore lifeboat was called into action to a person cut off by the tide in Hallelujah Bay on the West side of Portland.

He was recovered from the rocks and taken to Chesil Cove.

At 11.50am on Sunday the inshore lifeboat tasked to a 16' dory which had run onto the rocks near to Church Hope Cove, Portland.

Once on scene the lifeboat crew found that the two persons who had been on board were safe ashore in the hands of the Portland Bill Mobile team of Coastguards.

The lifeboat returned to station at 2.30pm.
