TWO paragliders had to be airlifted to safety by coastguards in two separate incidents near Ringstead Bay.

The Wyke Coastguards were paged at 15.27pm on Sunday afternoon to reports of a trapped paraglider near Ringstead Bay.

One of the coastguards, who had previously been out on the water near the White Nothe, earlier witnessed a paraglider lose height and land half way up the cliff.

He immediately called it into the NMOC where they tasked the Lulworth Team to locate and assist the casualty.

When on scene the Lulworth team located the casualty and liaised with the NMOC who subsequently tasked Rescue 106 to assist with extraction.

At this point a second paraglider had reportedly also got into difficulties in the same area and the Wyke team were paged to assist with the second casualty.

Upon arrival at Ringstead car park the team liaised with local paraglider enthusiasts to ensure they remained on the ground whilst Rescue 106 was performing its duties.

The first casualty was then extracted by winch and taken to the Lulworth MRU location for assessment.

The second casualty was then located and also extracted by Rescue 106 to the same location.

When both casualties were confirmed safe and well by Lulworth CRT the teams were stood down and Rescue 106 departed the area.

The gliding enthusiasts could then once more take advantage of the favourable flying conditions.
