THE delights of an English country garden will be on full display in Weymouth next week.

The owners of a cottage in Old Castle Road will open their garden to the public in the aid of charity.

Elaine Smith and housemate Jane Uff will provide tea and cakes to anyone who visits their cottage.

The pair are taking part in the National Garden Scheme which allows members of the public to see private gardens. Their garden will be open to the public on four afternoons during the next month.

Elaine said: "The garden has a lovely view over Portland Harbour which we enjoy all the time.

"The summer will soon be here and strolling through a garden is a lovely way to spend an hour. We have an orchard, apple blossom, a vegetable patch and all the usual flowering plants to see."

The garden will be open to the public between 2pm-5pm on May 8, May 22 and June 5.

Proceeds will go to the National Garden Scheme which supports a number of charities. It will be open again on May 20 when proceeds will go to the South Dorset Air Ambulance. Admission is £2.
