FUNDRAISERS have discovered a novel way to raise money for a little boy with a terminal illness.

Friends of the St Nicholas and St Laurence Primary School pupil will be doing a sponsored scoot along the seafront.

The youngster has been diagnosed with a type of brain tumour.

His parents have asked the Dorset Echo not to identify him but the whole community has pulled together to raise money to send him on the holiday of a lifetime with his family.

Family friend Gemma Florance is one of the organisers of the sponsored scoot. She is inviting anyone with children to join in the event this coming Saturday and hopes to raise as much money as possible.

Gemma said: “For me it’s a personal thing. His mum is a very good friend and I used to work at the nursery he attended before he started school.

“It’s just devastating. He is a little boy with a big smile and a big heart.

“I want to help so he can live out his dreams and visit the places he wants to. It’s also about offering financial support to his parents.

"They are not going to want to work while they are going through this.”

St Nicholas and St Laurence Primary School has been holding a number of fundraising events to help, and businesses across Weymouth have donated cash and prizes to raffle off.

Broadwey residents have also got on board with parent Becky Taton helping her children bake cakes to sell to neighbours.

They raised £375 in just one night.

A fundraising website set up by the little boy’s aunt has raised more than £10,000.

Gemma said: “The support has been outstanding. It is a story that is really touching people’s hearts.

“People in Weymouth have been phenomenal and it makes me proud to be a part of this community.”

Entry costs £5 per child or £10 per family. The event starts at 1pm at Cafe Oasis.
