WESTFIELD Arts College has officially opened its new base at Weymouth College.
The school has opened a new base for students transitioning between the school and college at Weymouth College’s main campus on Cranford Avenue.
The new base was officially opened by MP Richard Drax as he joined staff from Westfield and Weymouth College for the opening.
Guests enjoyed a chance to look around the facility before speeches from interim principal and Weymouth College Nigel Evans and headteacher at Westfield Arts College Andrew Penman as well as Mr Drax before he declared the centre officially open.
The new base will allow the students to use Weymouth College facilities but enjoy the security of their school to give them the best of both worlds.
Mr Penman said: "We have been wondering for some time how best to provide for our sixth form students who are ready for the next stage in their education – an age appropriate college environment.
“Often they find the transition between school and college a difficult time. We feel that this new College base, Westfield@Weymouth College, will offer our students the best of both worlds – a gradual introduction to College life from the security of a Westfield base.”
While at the site, Mr Drax also opened Weymouth College’s new employability suite which will help find work and apprenticeships for all students studying there.
