WHAT has happened to our one-time ‘friendly’, door-to-door mail service?

I am 81 and disabled, my wife is 75.

Somebody is kind enough to send her a birthday card, but according to your company, they did not pay enough in postage charges.

So now, we have to somehow get to your office, and not only pay the difference of 20p, but a fine (which, I might add, is not our fault and cannot be recovered) of £1.

Time was when the mailman was hailed as a ‘regular’, when he knew all of his customers, and would knock on the door to collect short-payments such as this one; job done.

Is our great Royal British Mail so darned petty as to inconvenience – and fine – pensioners in this way?
