ORGANISERS of a vintage car club say they are "delighted" to hand over more than £2,300 to charity following their summer events.

Back in June, local car club, Transport of Yesteryear, hosted their 16th annual Vintage and Classic Car Show and Fun Day at School Hill in Chickerell.

The fun-packed charity day full of food, music and of course cars of all varieties, was hailed a huge success by the team and last week the organisers presented a cheque for £1,250 to the Dorset Air Ambulance.

Club members Muriel Ovens and Carle Grahame presented the cheque to the life-saving charity at their October club night at the Lugger Inn in Chickerell.

Last month the club presented TV star Martin Clunes with a cheque for £1,100 for the Weldmar Hospicecare Trust - the money was raised at their annual 65-mile Hardy Country Classic rally.

Chairman of the group, Mr Grahame, said they were delighted with the amounts raised this year for the two charities and thanked the public for their support.

He said their show was extremely popular with exhibitors and visitors alike, he said: "Exhibitors return year after year as do our traders, many of whom have been with us from the first show day 16 years ago."

He added: "We are proud as a club to support these two vitally important local charities while enjoying our hobby and providing two community events for the public to enjoy.

"We have had tremendous support from our village here in Chickerell and all the surrounding areas, with exhibitors and traders coming from Devon, Cornwall, Somerset, Hampshire, Wiltshire and London.

"We sincerely thank everyone for supporting our events."

Membership of the club now stands at 112 and the club have recently signed up their first overseas member from Belgium.

The 2016 Hardy Country Classic Tour will take place on Sunday, June 5 and the Chickerell Vintage and Classic Car Show and Fun Day will take place on Sunday, June 26.
