DORCHESTER’S carnival committee needs you!

The team behind the county town’s annual celebration is looking for people to come forward to build on the success of this year’s event and help make 2016 a year to remember.

Carnival chairman Les Fry said: “We had a huge amount of fun organising the carnival and although it was hard work at times it was also very rewarding.

“We’d love to give other people the chance to join us in organising the carnival for 2016.”

The current committee is made up of Rotary Club members, local business owners and a number of people with strong connections to the town and it is keen to involve others for next year’s event.

Les said that as well as helping to put on a fun event enjoyed by the whole town, organisers will help to support a whole host of good causes in the local area.

He said: “The carnival is a great summer event for people in Dorchester and local villages but, more importantly, it also raises lots of money for local charities, this year saw over £6,000 raised for good causes.

“Everyone who entered this year’s procession was given £100 of the money we collected and we’re really keen to see that happen again next year.”

Les said that there was already plenty of interest in the 2016 carnival and he was expecting a repeat of the strong showing of support from the local community that the event enjoyed last year.

He said: “We’ve had groups approach us already with ideas for their floats, so the community is clearly keen for the carnival to go ahead.

“We’d just love to see some new faces helping us.

“We’re looking for people with a can-do attitude to get stuck in and help with things like finding sponsors, publicising the event and writing to local groups.”

The next meeting of the group is on Wednesday, December 2 at 4.30pm in the Dorchester Town Council chamber at the Corn Exchange.
