ALL Saints School has announced the appointment of a new headteacher.

Kevin Broadway, who has been the acting headteacher at the Wyke Regis school has been appointed as the new headteacher from January 1, 2016.

Mr Broadway has been performing the role of headteacher since Paul Gray left to go to Poole High School earlier this year.

The Venerable Paul Taylor, Archdeacon of Sherborne and chairman of the school governing body said he was ‘delighted’ with the appointment.

He said: “We are delighted with this appointment. Kevin has been a highly effective acting headteacher since the departure of Mr Gray to Poole High School.

“Following two days of rigorous interviews with a strong candidate base the governors were very pleased to be able to appoint the best person for the role.”

Mr Broadway spoke of his pride in being appointed to the role.

He said: “I am immensely proud to be the new headteacher of All Saints CE School.

“This will be my eleventh year at All Saints after previously working in London, Guernsey and briefly on HMP The Weare.

“The school is an outstanding learning community and a very special human community. I know that our staff have sincerity and professional wisdom and our students have the capacity and desire to build on that very strong foundation.”

Mr Broadway said that he hopes the school can become a national centre of excellence.

He said: “We have the essential ingredients for success – staff and governors that can make great things happen and students and parents who want great things to happen.

“As a school we want to move from being a local centre of excellence to a national one and we have the appetite to do so.”

Mr Broadway was a deputy headteacher at the school prior to taking up the acting role.

He said: “I have been in the acting headteacher role since September and in the deputy headteacher role prior to that and so have a very clear idea of how we set about our task.

“Key to that will be generating a shared vision for the future based around trust, successful collaborations and developing further still our ethos and Christian distinctiveness.”

The appointment comes as the school enjoys its best GCSE results in its history with a total of 64 percent A* passes and 84 percent A* to C passes in maths.

The results were higher than any other school in the Weymouth and Portland area.
