A COUNTY-wide competition has raised more than £600 for a canine charity.

The Dorset Dog Portrait Awards, photographed by Dorchester-based photographer Greg Cameron Day, raised £620 from 52 entries in this year’s competition.

The competition saw members of the public taking their beloved pooches to Mr Day, and paying £10 for the photos to be taken, with Mr Day then donating that money to The Dog’s Trust.

Each entry was judged by Linda Jones, from Wincanton, and the winning dog was Eddie, a cocker spaniel owned by Ryan Evans from Dorchester.

Finishing in second place was Twizzle, whose owner is Sally Dixon from Up Sydling and then finishing in third place was German Shepherd Keggan, whose owner Abi Rice is from Lyme Regis.

Judge Linda Jones said: “I was honoured to be invited to judge the Dorset Dog Portrait Awards in aid of The Dogs Trust.

“What a task!

“They were such beautiful dogs and every one was displaying their own special character and it was so sad to dismiss any of them.

“My winner was the spaniel who eyes would melt any heart.

“Second was a bundle of Terrier nonsense who just made me laugh and in third place was the German Shepherd.

“Who could resist this face?

“Well done everybody for the money raised.”

The Dog’s Trust is the UK’s largest dog welfare charity, which offers outreach programmes, education and information for owners, dogs for rehoming and it also campaigns for more laws and legislation for the protection

Mr Day said he enjoyed photographing all of the dogs for the worthy cause.

He added: “Thanks to all who entered and helped raise money for this very worthy charity.”
