Flood alerts are in place for the west coast of Dorset, middle Stour, River Piddle, Upper Stour, Upper and Lower Frome, Weymouth’s rivers and streams and there is also an alert for groundwater flooding in West Dorset.

The Met Office has said that between Wednesday and Friday, the outlook is cold with winds gradually dying down over the week. It will be mainly dry on Wednesday and Thursday, but there will be stronger winds and showers on Friday.

A spokesman for the Met Office said: “In the south more prolonged spells of rain are likely, with a risk of this turning wintry, most likely over high ground.

“It will be windy at times, with a possibility of gales, most likely in the northeast and southwest.

“It may turn drier from the west early in the following week, although remaining cold with overnight frosts.

“Later on, unsettled conditions are likely to return. Temperatures returning to near normal, although with overnight frosts still possible.”
