A JOB club designed to boost employment opportunities for Weymouth and Portland residents has been presented with new equipment.

The Weymouth and Portland Lions Club has provided the Christians Against Poverty (CAP) Job Club with three refurbished laptops.

The laptops will be used to help clients update their CVs and search for job opportunities online.

The Job Club is being led by manager Kay Pither. She will be supported by Steve Sayers and Shirley Evans-Jones, acting as coaches.

The laptops provided have been refurbished by Trenton Oliver from Cohort Computers.

Representatives from the Lions Club and CAP Job Club met earlier this month at The Prayerhouse, Weymouth, to hand over the new equipment.

Kay Pither, manager of CAP Job Club, said: “It’s extremely generous because we are just beginning.

“We have our room in here to run the Job Club. It has been given by the Prayerhouse.

“The aim of the Job Club is to help people to take steps towards employment.

“We help people learn additional skills, interview techniques and develop any other techniques they may need to increase their skill level.

“We will do as much as we can and give them confidence to move towards employment.

“Once you’re out of work you lose so much confidence.

“We are very, very grateful to the Lions Club for their donations and they will be well used.”

Mark Lockie, president of Weymouth and Portland Lions Club, said they had a number of laptops to give to those in need.

He said: “We are very pleased to be able to make this donation today.

“We look at each case in turn very seriously and make a decision.

“Anybody can apply but we have got some strict criteria as to who we give them to.”

REFRESH Weymouth and Portland Churches in Action has also backed the initiative.
