Coastguards in West Dorset have issued a warning following a cliff fall near Seatown.

The National Maritime Operations Centre asked West Bay Coastguard to investigate the fall on Friday and assess the risk to the public.

The cliff fall occurred just to the east of Seatown car park. No one was hurt.

Six rescue officers from the West Bay team and the team's station officer attended the scene.

The National Trust also responded to the incident.

Officers inspected the area and sent photographs and grid references back to Solent Coastguard.

In a statement on its Facebook page, a spokesperson for West Bay Coastguard said: "Our coastline is an ever changing environment.

"Coastal erosion, cliff falls and landslides are a natural part of this and members of the public should be vigilant.

"Never walk under the cliffs, stay away from the cliff edge when walking on the coastal path and always keep your dog on a lead.

"Do not climb on cliff falls as the rocks & debris may be unstable and cause injury and as in this case, may contain a lot of mud and clay which could cause you or your dog to become trapped.

"Stay Safe on the Coast. But if you find yourself in difficulty, or if you are concerned for others, do not hesitate.

"Dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard."
