A GLORIOUS Dorset walk is set to star in a new television programme hosted by Julia Bradbury.

Starting on ITV at 8pm this Friday, Julia will be presenting a new eight-part series called Best Walks with a View, featuring amongst the sumptuous views Dorset’s very own Golden Cap.

Julia and the team spent a couple of days filming for the new series in West Dorset at the end of last year, as well as travelling around the UK to locations including the Peak District and the Lake District to find the best views.

The former Countryfile presenter said she had loved spending time in the county filming the "glorious" walk at Golden Cap.

The crew then went for a pint and some food at the nearby Anchor Inn.

She said: “We were lucky in Dorset. We took an executive decision, the forecast was good for the first day of filming. So we did the final bit of the walk and Golden Cap first. We wanted to make sure the end of the walk was in the sunshine, so we filmed back to front.

“We did have fantastic weather.

“It was absolutely glorious, there were sun rays illuminating the sea. It was absolutely beautiful.”

Julia also went to Colmer’s Hill in Symondsbury and spoke to local residents about the hill’s special place in the landscape of the Jurassic Coast and the heart of the people.

She met artist Marion Taylor who created a book about Colmer’s Hill featuring artists’ paintings of the hill, called Colmer's Hill, One Artist’s Obsession.

Julia said the hill was an important part of the landscape and was iconic with the trees on top.

The aim of the series was to be as “informative and entertaining” as it possibly could be, Julia said, adding: “It’s not a documentary, it’s meant to be a story and they are meant to show off the local landscape and history to their absolute best.”

It was a tough decision to choose just eight walks for the series and depended on a number of factors Julia said, including being about to get the crew and equipment from place to place easily, so that they could get all eight walks done in just seven weeks.

Julia has been down to the Jurassic Coast many times throughout her filming career and said she enjoyed time fossil hunting along the coast.

She added: “I really enjoy that coast line, it’s always a pleasure to come back every time.”

The series is accompanied by a new book, out this week in hardback, entitled Unforgettable Walks. The episode featuring Golden Cap will be broadcast on Friday, March 4.
