‘THAT’S unbelievable Jeff!’

One businessman from Creech St Michael was walking with the stars as part of a nationwide charity event.

Richard McLaughlin was one of the main organisers behind Sky Sports and Countdown presenter Jeff Stelling’s walk for Prostate Cancer UK.

Stelling, most famous for his presenting role on Soccer Saturday, walked the equivalent of 10 marathons in 10 days between Hartlepool United’s football ground and Wembley, raising money for the charity.

Walking under the banner of Men United, the route of the walk was planned by Richard McLaughlin, with a host of famous faces including former Somerset County cricketer Sir Ian Botham, Chris Kamara, plus his television sidekicks, former footballers Matt Le Tissier, Paul Merson and Chris Kamara.

The gruelling challenge, which saw Mr McLaughlin and Stelling pound 260 miles as they walked from north to south, visiting clubs in Birmingham, Nottingham, Sheffield and London, raised an impressive £300,000 for the charity, which gives support and advice to people who suffer from prostate cancer, as well as funding research into cures and diagnosis of the cancer.

Speaking after the event, Stelling said: “When we started this, this was about raising awareness. We have now raised close to £300,000 and we will inevitably top just that in terms of funds raised.”

“It is a massive accomplishment. But if someone had told me, any time after the first four days, that I would make it, it wouldn’t have believed them.

“It has gotten progressively easier, rather than harder.”
