A RUNNING club will be pushed to its limits against some of the toughest terrain on Portland and is encouraging others to take on the challenge.

On Sunday, May 15 the Royal Manor of Portland Athletics Club (RMPAC) will be holding the Hard Way Half, a running event that includes a half marathon and five mile route.

This testing event will take runners from the top of the island, down to the bottom, and back up again, via the pebbles of Chesil beach, Lankridge, historic High Angle Batteries, Westcliff, Portland Bill, Church Ope and the Goat Path, depending which event they take part in.

Jim Kenderdine from RMPAC said: "Whether you choose to run in the half marathon or the five mile race, the route, planned and organised by the Club Captain Mike ‘the Beastmaster’ Tizard, will test your mental and physical resolve as you pit yourself against some of the toughest terrain Portland has to offer."

The race will start and finish at the Blues Club at Portland United Football Club and there will be water stations and marshals along the route. All runners will receive a medal.

Jim added: "Whether you are a first timer or experienced runner, running for charity, aiming for a personal best or contemplating a personal challenge, this race is a fantastic achievement and one you will always remember. Whatever your motivation whether you run by yourself, run with a friend or a group of friends, we would love to see you there. If you can’t run please come along and support this local event by giving the runners a much needed cheer as they pass by, or if you could help marshal on the day please contact the club.

"We’ve also booked good weather - but no guarantees.

"RMPAC meet at the YMCA on Portland every Tuesday at 6.15pm and welcome runners of all abilities and experience. Our members run for many different reasons, it may be to lose weight or improve their fitness, train for a particular event such as a charity run, improve their running technique, challenge themselves, to make new friends or just because they enjoy getting out in the fresh air, whatever the reason our experienced and qualified coaches will help you achieve your goals. See you at the start line."
