THERE'S been a serious crash involving two cars on the M5 near Bridgwater this afternoon.

Emergency services rushed to the scene at around 12.26pm this afternoon when two cars collided.

Initial reports indicated that one car had rolled over and that the car has crossed the central reservation from the north to the southbound carriageway.

Two people were rushed to hospital following the incident. One, a 26-year-old man, was taken to Musgrove Park Hospital with a back injury.

Another casualty was taken to the same hospital with breathing difficulties.

It is not yet known how seriously injured the pair were, but it is not believed to be life-threatening.

Two lanes southbound were closed between J23 and J24 following the incident as the emergency services worked, causing lenghty traffic tailbacks.

Police, paramedics and firefighters all attended the incident.

All lanes are now reopen following the crash.

A spokesman for South Western Ambulance Service said: "We were called to the incident on the M5 junction 23 southbound at 12.26pm

"There are two cars involved in the incident, and it looks like one of the cars has rolled over.

"There are two casualties. One, a 26-year-old male, has a back injury and was taken to Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton.

"The other casualty has breathing difficulties, and was also taken to Musgrove Park Hospital.

"It is not yet known how serious the injuries, but it is not believed to be life-threatening."
