DRIVERS will be hit by night closures on the A35 this week as the route gets a revamp.

Carriageway repairs and surface treatment works will take place on the A35 all this week and the section from Bridport to Dorchester will be closed overnight from 8pm tonight to 6am every day until Wednesday, May 11.

The carriageway repairs will also include routine maintenance such as sign cleaning, and road sweeping, minimising need for traffic management over the rest of the year.

There will be closures from Stinsford to Bere Regis overnight from Wednesday, May 11 at 8pm until Thursday, May 26 at 6am.

The letter, from SWH/BBIS operations manager, the managing agent contractor for the roads, Paul Mitchell, states: “We have tried to minimise disruption to road users and residents by restricting our works to night time only.

“Where operations are carried out close to properties we will endeavour to undertake as much of any noisy activities before midnight. However work will continue through the night and some disruption may occur throughout the work period.

“For all the road closures a fully signed traffic diversion route will be implemented during the closure period.”

The letter continues: “We realise that these works may cause inconvenience to some local residents and road users. We do however believe the closures offer the most efficient and safest way to undertake these necessary works for residents along the route, the travelling public and our workers."

“We would however like to take this opportunity to apologise if any inconvenience is caused during these operations.”

The company said that the works are weather susceptible and may be subject to change due to circumstances beyond their its control.
