A HOT dog eating competition postponed earlier this year due to poor weather is set to get people to put their money where their mouth is in May.

The competition will be raising money for the Kingfisher Ward at Dorset County Hospital.

Sarah Jane’s Diner van, which is usually situated opposite the Costa Coffee on South Street will be holding the competition.

The event was originally set to be held on Saturday, March 26 at the old town pump.

It will now be held on Saturday, May 14 from 2pm at the diner van.

People will be challenged to see how many hot dogs they can eat within a five minute time limit to win prizes and the illustrious title of hot dog eating champion 2016.

All the proceeds will go to charity and people can sign-up now at Sarah Jane’s Diner for just £2.

After the competition there will be a raffle for a chance to win more prizes.

This time, Sarah Jane Wise, who runs the van and is putting on the event, said that it will take place no matter what the weather.

Sarah Jane said that she was inspired to put on the event by junior doctors during recent strikes.

She said: “We saw the junior doctors come through and I was just having a chat with them. It was when they had the strikes and we thought about doing some form of competition to try and raise funds for them.”

Sarah Jane said that after some thinking it was decided that hot dogs were the best option.

She said: “So we decided to do a competition. We discussed an eating competition, we thought burgers would be difficult so we thought everyone likes hot dogs and it should be a bit easier.”

Sarah Jane said that as well as raising money for charity she thought it would be a good event to hold for the South Street market.
