EAST Overcliff Drive will close from Friday morning while work takes place to clear the site of last month's landslip.

The road only reopened on Wednesday following the landslip on Sunday, April 24.

But from 10am on Friday morning an 'indefinite' road closure will be reinstated in preparation for works to begin clearing the site of the landslip.

Traffic diversions will be in place from East Overcliff Drive’s junction with Manor Road and at the Russell Cotes Road junction with Bath Road.

Tonnes of rock and rubble plunged 100ft onto the promenade after a large portion of East Cliff collapsed.

The landslip happened at around 5am, just yards from the Jon Egging Memorial. Officials said at the time it was lucky no-one was seriously injured.

East Cliff’s Edwardian funicular railway lift was also damaged, with one of its cars knocked off its rails by the force of the impact.

An area of high fencing is still in place at the top of the cliff and the council is asking the public not to enter this area.
